The International Maritime Organization announced an evacuation plan for more than 11,000 seafarers stranded in the Gulf region. The IMO said the operation would be carried out with Iran, Oman, other coastal states, the United States and maritime industry partners after safety guarantees were secured for navigation.

A United Nations independent commission said Israeli authorities and security forces deliberately targeted Palestinian children, resulting in genocide and other atrocity crimes in Gaza and war crimes in the West Bank. Israel rejected the commission’s findings and has disputed the allegations.

The United States Senate voted 50-48 to pass a war powers resolution directing President Donald Trump to halt military operations against Iran. Reuters reported that the Senate action followed a similar House vote and marked a congressional rebuke of the president’s Iran policy.

Police in Nigeria’s central Plateau state said 20 people were killed in a weekend attack on a community in Bokkos district. Police said officers and other security agencies engaged the attackers before they fled. Eighteen people were reported killed at the scene and two later died in hospital.

France recorded its hottest day on record during an early summer heatwave affecting much of Western Europe. The Associated Press reported that nearly 40 people drowned in France over the previous week, many while seeking relief in water during the heatwave.
